The international program at Russian International School (RIS) is based on the English National Curriculum, which is used in hundreds of schools worldwide. This program offers flexibility and compatibility, enabling your children to continue their education anywhere in the world.
The primary goals of the RIS international program include preparing students for GCSE and A-Level exams, as well as facilitating their admission to leading international universities.
Structure of the UK Programme
The British educational system differs from the Russian one and is divided into several levels:
1
Foundation Stage or Early Years - for children from 3 to 5 years old
This stage focuses on developing basic skills such as social interactions, basic reading and writing, and general cognitive abilities.
2
Key Stage 1 is for children aged 5 to 7 years old
Includes initial teaching of core subjects such as English, Maths and Science with an emphasis on developing basic learning skills.
3
Key Stage 2 is for children from 7 to 10 years old
This stage continues the in-depth study of core subjects including English, maths, science, history and geography, progressing to more challenging concepts.
4
Key Stage 3 is for children aged 11 to 13 years old
The curriculum includes a wider range of subjects and exam preparation, developing critical thinking and research skills.
5
Key Stage 4 is for teenagers between 14 and 15 years of age
This is completed by GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations, which are compulsory in the UK to confirm secondary education. At this stage pupils choose subjects to study in more depth.
6
Key Stage 5 or A Levels are for pupils aged 16-17
A two-year programme for 16-17 year olds, preparing them for higher education. It ends with A-level examinations, which are the main criteria for university entrance.
