October at RIS: English Language and Literature Month
October at Russian International School became a celebration of English language and literature, filled with exciting events designed to foster communication skills and creative thinking among our students. Throughout the month, students from various classes participated in activities immersing them in English-speaking culture and literature.
First Graders' Dedication Ceremony
We marked a significant and touching event — the dedication of our youngest learners as first graders! At the end of the first school month, this annual tradition celebrates the symbolic first step of preschoolers into the world of school education. For us, this is not just a tradition but a symbol of a meaningful transition into an exciting new phase of life.
5 O'Clock Tea
As part of the month, we continued the delightful tradition of British afternoon tea! During this event, our international program teachers shared the fascinating history of this custom. Students learned about how British tea culture became an integral part of society, its roots, and its significance.
Teacher’s Day at RIS
Ahead of Teacher’s Day, RIS held a much-anticipated self-governance day, giving students the chance to step into the role of teachers. Middle and high school students prepared lessons, developed plans, and even graded elementary school students. Each participant chose a subject they felt most connected to and worked to make it engaging and informative.
Apple Day at RIS Nursery
RIS Nursery celebrated a vibrant event — Apple Day! Children embarked on a "journey" through old England, learning about apple cultivation, the different varieties, and their historical uses. The event offered an excellent opportunity to explore nature and its gifts, sparking curiosity among the little ones.
Harry Potter Day
One of the most magical events of the month was Harry Potter Day when our school transformed into Hogwarts for a day! Elementary students immersed themselves in the wizarding world through an exciting quest combining educational tasks with a touch of magic. The day ended with a culinary masterclass where students created their own magical treats!
Rublyovka Chess Cup 2024
The first half of October saw the Rublyovka Chess Cup 2024, which brought together talented young chess players from our school. Participants showcased their skills and strategic thinking. The tournament not only identified the best players but also provided a platform for exchanging experiences and connecting with like-minded peers.
Exploring Classic Literature
Students actively explored iconic works of world literature. Year 7D presented the opening scene of the "Mad Tea Party" from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. This performance sparked interest in literature and inspired further reading among students.
Autumn Fest at RIS Nursery
Preschool campuses hosted vibrant Autumn Fest celebrations, giving our youngest learners a chance to showcase the skills they’ve developed during their lessons in a joyful and engaging atmosphere.
Science Project Presentations
Year 12 students completed their science project presentations, focusing on health and lifestyle topics. The projects reflected a practical approach, enabling students to apply their knowledge and develop research skills.
Father's Day Celebration
RIS Nursery also celebrated Father’s Day on October 20th with great enthusiasm. The little ones created handmade gifts for their dads and shared heartwarming stories about why their fathers are the best, highlighting the importance of love and care for family.
15th Issue of RIS Magazine
The 15th anniversary issue of RIS Magazine was published in October! Students discussed a variety of topics, from music and school life to modern technology and climate change. The magazine showcased the students' creative approach and teamwork in crafting engaging articles.
Football Championship
At the end of the first school module, a football championship took place for students from grades 1-4 and 7-11. The event gathered young athletes eager to showcase their skills and passion for the game. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop team spirit and collaboration.
Charity Fair at Russian International School
As is tradition, the school module ended with a Charity Fair. Students displayed amazing crafts, colorful drawings, and delicious homemade sweets and pastries. Together, we raised 75,000 rubles, which will support the Saint Sophia Social Home for children with developmental disabilities.
The festive atmosphere was enhanced by students dressed in vibrant costumes. The fair also featured interactive workshops led by high school students and concluded with a spectacular costume show.
