November: Science Month at RIS

November at Russian International School was a time of discoveries and new insights. Our Natural Sciences Month brought together exciting experiments, hands-on activities, and fascinating lectures, helping students delve deeper into the world around them. From creating mini-volcanoes to studying plant cell structures, students not only observed and analyzed but also applied their knowledge in practice. We explored ecology, chemistry, biology, and even the basics of business, broadening horizons and fostering essential skills.
Here’s a look at the most exciting events of the month:

Ecology and Sustainable Development

One of the key themes of the month was ecology. Senior students attended a lecture on waste recycling, land reclamation, and modern environmental technologies. These sessions encouraged students to reflect on the planet's future and their role in its preservation. Discussions highlighted the importance of environmental responsibility and how individuals can positively impact the global ecological situation.

Unity Day at RIS Nursery

On November 4th, the little ones at RIS Nursery celebrated Unity Day with vibrant sports relays. The children competed in agility, speed, and teamwork, strengthening friendships and building self-confidence. These activities underscored the importance of togetherness, mutual support, and shared goals, fostering a spirit of unity from an early age.

First Aid Training

The month began with practical first aid sessions for middle school students. They learned to apply bandages, measure blood pressure, and practiced CPR techniques. These classes not only developed useful skills but also taught students how to remain calm in challenging situations—skills that will serve them well in real-life emergencies.

Real Business Lessons

Year 9 students delved into marketing and economics as part of the international program, creating brochures for specific target audiences. This experience enhanced their analytical and project design skills, equipping them with tools for future success in business and beyond.

Excursion to the Geological Museum

RIS students visited the Vernadsky State Geological Museum, where they marveled at fossils of ancient organisms, meteorites, and collections of precious stones. The excursion expanded their geological knowledge and immersed them in the fascinating history of our planet.

“Chemical Maze” Quest Game

Senior students participated in the “Chemical Maze” competition, showcasing their chemistry knowledge and laboratory skills. Using lab equipment, they explored chemical substances in a dynamic and engaging way, making the study of chemistry both fun and educational.

#WayToSuccess: A Meeting with Roman Kravtsov

RIS students had the unique opportunity to meet Roman Kravtsov, CEO of TransTeleCom Company. He shared his invaluable experience in leading one of Russia’s largest telecommunications companies and discussed the future of technology. The discussion covered topics such as artificial intelligence, satellite internet, and digital ecosystems, inspiring students to explore high-tech industries.

Mother’s Day at RIS Nursery

In celebration of Mother’s Day, RIS Nursery hosted creative workshops where moms and kids crafted terrariums—miniature oases with succulents. The day concluded with a cheerful dance flash mob, filling the atmosphere with joy. These shared activities strengthened bonds between mothers and their children, creating lasting memories.

Year 5 Science Experiment: Exploring Diffusion with Candy

Year 5 students conducted an exciting science experiment using Skittles and warm water to study diffusion. They arranged the candies in a circle, added water, and watched the colors dissolve to create vivid patterns. This hands-on activity visually demonstrated scientific concepts and inspired students to explore further.

Experiments with Natural Indicators

Students from classes 8Y10 and 5Y7 explored natural indicators made from vegetables, berries, and spices. These experiments introduced students to the world of chemistry, teaching them about acidity and alkalinity while demonstrating how everyday items can be used for scientific research.

Vitamin Awareness Campaign

RIS hosted an engaging campaign on the importance of vitamins and their role in maintaining health. Students learned about essential vitamins, their benefits, and the consequences of deficiencies. A colorful wall poster attracted attention and sparked meaningful discussions.
The highlight of the campaign was a vitamin lottery, where participants spun a wheel to win vitamin-rich products. Here’s what they “caught”:
  • Vitamin A – Sweet and healthy carrots
  • Vitamin B – Whole-grain rye bread
  • Vitamin C – Juicy and cheerful mandarins
The campaign brought a wave of positivity and a healthy boost for everyone involved!

“My Pet” Round Table

RIS students shared stories about their pets during engaging round table discussions. Participants highlighted funny anecdotes and care tips, sparking conversations about the importance of compassion and responsibility toward animals.
Special attention went to stories about unusual pets like pythons and mantises, which amazed everyone! The discussions also touched on topics such as helping stray animals and the role pets play in human lives.

QR Code Quest

Class 8Y10 students participated in a QR Code Quest, working in teams to solve challenges hidden in QR codes. The tasks covered topics from science lessons in the first and second quarters, along with advanced exam questions. The activity reinforced their knowledge while combining learning with fun.
Winners earned well-deserved merits for their teamwork and enthusiasm, making the experience both educational and interactive.

Year 12/10 Students Create Lessons on Scientific Literature

Year 12/10 students began an exciting project designing lessons on scientific literature for younger students. They planned activities featuring various text types like diaries, memoirs, reports, and biographies.
Working in groups, they identified suitable texts for younger audiences and developed methods to present information effectively. This project honed their teaching, planning, and teamwork skills, while also deepening their understanding of scientific texts.

Football Success at RIS

November brought fantastic results for RIS football teams in matches against the “Lider” school:
  • Grades 1–2 team achieved an incredible victory with a score of 19:1.
  • Grades 3–4 team secured a 6:4 win.
These matches showcased not only the players’ high level of preparation but also their teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination.
November was truly a vibrant and inspiring month filled with exciting events, discoveries, and achievements. We’re proud of our accomplishments and grateful to everyone who participated in these initiatives.
Next up is December, a Month of Kindness and Miracles! We look forward to spreading joy, helping others, and creating meaningful experiences.
